"Haunted" was born out of my research into the metaphysical phenomenon of Zaar, a belief in southern Iran, Arab, and African cultures, thought to cause untreatable illnesses, with healing rituals involving music and dance.
In writing this play, I also engaged with the recent history of Iranian society and the interactions between various groups that contributed to the 1978 revolution.
The performance took place in an old bathhouse, using its architecture to move the audience through different scenes, creating an immersive and experiential theatre production.
