Glaucoma
2023
Experimental Short Film
Producer, Writer, Cinematographer, Sound Designer
"Glaucoma" is an experimental short film that explores the emotional and physical deterioration of a woman suffering from glaucoma, as she shares her experience of gradual vision loss with her unborn child. The script, written after a significant hiatus following the social movements in Iran in 2022, is one of my most emotionally resonant works.
The project was screened at the 20th Nahal International Short Film Festival, where it was honored with the Critics' Prize.
As my first venture into cinematography, Glaucoma provided a rich canvas for visual experimentation, using shot composition to mirror the progressive nature of the disease. Additionally, it marked my debut in sound design, where I developed intricate soundscapes for each scene, drawing on my background in radio drama for foley effects. The soundtrack was composed using Deaf Kandinsky, my custom-built music generator that translates colors into sound using a 12-tone technique, adding a layered sensory dimension to the film's abstract narrative.
